Balance 4.0 β€” a whole new Balance

This is the biggest update we have ever shipped. Every screen has been rebuilt, and four of the things you asked for most are now in the app.

Redesigned, top to bottom

Balance is built around a clearer overview now. At the centre of it is a new gauge: one look tells you whether your spending is in balance this month, and who owes who. No more doing the subtraction in your head.

React to an expense

Any expense can now be answered with an emoji. Most of what two people want to say about a purchase is a πŸŽ‰ or a πŸ‘ or a πŸ˜… β€” now you can say it where the expense is, instead of in a separate chat.

Know the moment it happens

Notifications arrive as soon as your partner adds a transaction, or reacts to one of yours. The shared account stops being something you remember to check.

Widgets, everywhere

The Split gauge and your category limits have widgets of their own, so the number that matters is on your Home Screen without opening anything. On iPhone there are Lock Screen widgets too, and a Control Center button that adds an expense in a single tap.

Built for the big screen

On tablets and on the desktop, Balance finally has a layout of its own: two columns for browsing your expenses, and a real window instead of a stretched phone.

Most of this update started as a post on this board β€” the reactions, the widgets and the wider layout were all things you asked for. Keep telling us what's missing: we read everything.
