Customizable Month Start Date
Since paydays vary, the app should allow us to change the day the month starts (e.g., from the 1st to the 5th) for more accurate monthly tracking.
Add “Paid” Status (✔️ or Color Change) for Expenses to Improve Tracking
One feature that would significantly improve the user experience in Balance is the ability to mark an expense as “paid.” Currently, all expenses appear the same, which can make it difficult to quickly distinguish between pending and completed payments especially when managing multiple entries. A simple solution could be: • Adding a ✔️ tick icon to indicate a paid expense • Or using a subtle color change (e.g., greyed out or green) for paid items This would make tracking much clearer at a glance and help users stay more organized without needing to open each entry individually. It would be a small addition with a big impact on usability and efficiency. Would love to hear if others find this useful
Option to add settle ups
I’m missing a feature to add settle up. Like if my partner owes me and pays me - we should be able to add that.
Option to Exclude Expenses from Budget
We require an option to exclude an expense from the monthly shared budget (e.g., for private or personal purchases), while still keeping it tracked in the app.
Subcategories
I like to have my budget in three main categories : needs, wants, savings. Each of those have their own subcategories. It would be great if something similar could be made in this app. This would have me switch from Google spreadsheets
Set Unique Budget Limits per Month
Enable users to adjust their total budget goal on a month-to-month basis to account for varying financial situations or seasonal spending.
Finding a way to input savings
Right now savings don't have a specific place to put them We have created an expense called savings for the moment because we want to nullify all our remaining income using the savings expense and have them in reports mentioned as savings if we don't do that we don't really know how much savings we have and they wouldn't show on reports for example.
Split individual and shared expenses
Allow users to clearly separate and track individual expenditure versus joint expenses shared with a partner or family member
Add transactions automatically from a receipt, a bank statement or a screenshot
Instead of typing every expense by hand, let Balance read it from what you already have: a photo of a receipt, a bank or credit card statement (PDF or export), or a screenshot of your banking app — or simply dictate it by voice. The app proposes the transactions with amount, date and category, and you confirm them all at once or one by one.
Category Comparison Tool
We need a tool that allows for the direct comparison of spending between different categories over selected periods, beyond just viewing the total.

Individual Income Tracking
Allow users to input and track individual income for each member of the household to provide context for the shared budget.

Reminder to add expenses
Being able to set reminders at a customizable frequency (daily, twice a day, weekly etc) to add expenses will be a great addition to cultivate the habit and to also improve the stickiness of the app
Each expense should have an option for %age split
Sometimes split is not just a single ratio 50:50 but could be 0:100 or 10:90 as well. Each expense should have an option to split.
Dedicated Web/Desktop Version
We need a dedicated web or desktop version of the app. This would allow us to manage our budget and expenses easily from a computer, especially for bulk data entry or detailed review.
Limit Recurring Payments
Allow setting a maximum number of occurrences or a stop date for recurring payments.
Custom date filter and Custom filters for all expenae categories
We need a custom filter for date to see expenses over a period of time and also filters for each expense category. For example, to see the total expense on grocey from January 1 to June 30.
